Bipolar Rant of The Day: Telemarketers

August 20
15:02 2014

First off I don’t have anything personally against the people who are actually making the annoying, unsolicited calls for products and services I’ll never want or need – but who I do loathe are the actual scumbags who run these immoral companies.

This is how a phone call I got this week went:

Random Number Comes Across Caller ID That Has Called For 3 Straight Days and I finally Decide To Answer:

“Hello”

“Hi this is so and so from so and so company and I…”

“Can you take me off your list please?”

“Sir, I don’t have a list – but I can put you on one…”

“I don’t want to be on any list, please just remove me from your current list.”

“Sir, again, I don’t have a list, but I can put you on one -“

“If I’m asking you to remove me from your list why would you think I’d want to be put on another list?”

“Well, I…”

“Just please remove me so I don’t get any further calls.”

“I’ll talk to my boss and see what I can do for you.”

This is exactly what I’m talking about. These companies are blood sucking vampires using their poor unsuspecting employees to do all their dirty work in an attempt at getting rich, and it drives me crazy, and they will never ever stop. It doesn’t matter what do not call list you’ve put yourself on, they will still find and call you right up until the day you die. They might even call the day you die trying to sell you health insurance, yep, they are just that sinister.

I worked for one and they actually just photocopied pages from phone books for is to dial. So seriously, we had no list!

Many of these companies now use an autodialer, so your phone number is not on a list. A computer just randomly calls you and transfers the call to the employee if you pick up. If they are trying to sell you a product, get the company name and immediately look it up online. If it doesn't exist, ask them how you are supposed to buy something from a company that doesn't exist. If it does, there should be some contact info. You can specifically request your number be excluded from their autodialer and you can report them if they don't. Get the company info first by acting interested, otherwise you can't report them. After all, how do you report 1-800-000-0000? Misrepresenting their number is also a grey area legally I think...

its not the telemarketers that drive me insane its the debt collectors for the guy who previously had my phone number. We have had this number going on 5 years now and have repeatedly told the people he no longer has this number and they have done everything including calling us a liar. In fact I think this fool never bothered changing his number because I get his direct tv troubleshooting call for problems he is having presently and to confirm his dr. appt. it is really frustrating.

If you put your number on the do-not-call-list, 30 days later it's in effect and you can file complaints against the companies that call you anyway. I went through a similar thing last year, it's horrible!
