One of my fears of being a father of two beautiful girls has come true – they love shoes just as much as their mother does and that is a hard pill to swallow. Now, I had briefly touched base in the past about the epidemic that has plagued my house for quite some time from the love of shoes, but I was hoping that I would get lucky and that it would skip a generation, but apparently I’m not so lucky.
I should have known something was up the last few days. Sky, our 19 month old daughter has been slowly shifting into the terrible two stage, and she has just become this giant ball of energy and defiance. She now has a pretty decent vocabulary, and as all princesses, she uses it to get what she wants – when she wants it. Lately, her obsession has become shoes.
Yesterday I woke up with her kick backed, stretched out, hands behind her head laying across my back watching Peppa Pig, while wearing her rain boots. Yep, her rain boots. Sure they were on the wrong feet, bu she maanged to get out of bed, slip on her boots, get back in bed, make herself comfy while laying on my back wearing her rain boots. Did I mention, she’s only 19 months old?
It’s been like this for a few days now. As soon as she gets up, she goes immediately to her shoe shelf thingy (or whatever you women call it) and randomly starts putting on a variety of shoes that never match and are always on the wrong feet. So needless to say I guess I’m picking up shoes and finding them in weird places, like the stove all damn day. And it doesn’t matter who’s shoes they are. She puts on my work boots and stomps around, and as soon as my wife gets home from work and kicks off her shoes, guess who is wearing them 30 second later? You guessed it – the Shoe Princess.
This just scares me. She already has more pairs of shoes than I’ve had in the last 3 years. What does the future hold? I’ll tell you what – an empty bank account, and one very happy and smiling baby girl.
